Holiday Shoot (Finally!)

It took us 17 months to do our first official family shoot, but we finally did, with the inimitable Max Wanger. I can’t believe it took us that long to get our act together to actually do some, and this was a mini-shoot, but a shoot nonetheless! We have another one scheduled for end of March with Caroline Tran and I can’t wait. Meanwhile, I never posted any of these and they are so fun (and we are so serious!).

We used this one as our holiday card, and I’ve never gotten so many responses from a card before.

Looking at these tonight had me thinking about us as a family. I write so much about Luciana, and not that much as what it’s like to be parents with Sky, to be married now that we have a baby, to be in this huge chapter of our lives as partners. Pretty soon we will have been together 9 years. Married for 3, but together for 9. Parenting does have the challenges that everyone says it does. We have snapped at each other at the worst possible moments. We have fought for time together only to have someone get sick or have an unavoidable meeting. We have had to spend more time talking about logistics than either of us ever thought possible. And I’ve never been more in love with my husband than I am right now.

We’ve decided to spend one day a week completely unplugged. It starts this weekend. We just don’t have enough time together right now to take away from each other with the iphone, but that’s inevitable most of the time. So one day a week they go away and we as a family are tech-free. I can’t wait.

These pics were 2 months ago, and it feels like Luciana is a different person now. Time has that funny way of moving faster than it ever has but somehow more happens in a day, a week, a month than I ever thought possible. As we are truly ready for #2 to come along, I am so so grateful for this time as our family of 3.
